Hampton Beach Regatta Report

HAMPTON BEACH, NH – JUNE 15-16, 2013: Beautiful weather greeted all sailors as they arrived on Saturday, June 15^th. After rigging and a quick skippers meeting the RC wasted no time starting races promptly according to schedule in the NOR. The race committee cranked out 7 races (3 – 2 laps races, 4 – 3 lap racies) throughout the day, with each race lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. With the wind coming directly from shore all day, sailors had to contend with puffs dropping off the land, 0-20 kts, and 70 degree wind shifts. The crazy conditions made it almost impossible for leaders to cover their competitors, causing lead changes on almost every leg and many sailors to grow a few more grey hairs. Sandra and Tripp did an excellent job navigating these tricky conditions to end the day at the top of the leaderboard 5 points ahead of Jeff Dusek and Brooks Reed and 7 ahead of Mike Easton / McKenzie Wilson and John Guiliano / Pete Guiliano who were tied for 3^rd.

Sunday greeted sore and tired sailors with lighter more consistent conditions. The consistent conditions didn’t last long as a sea breeze began battling the gradient causing the many 30 degree shifts with large variations in velocity. 4 races were sailed in these conditions with Tripp and Sandra continuing their consistency to win the event with a race to spare. Mike and McKenzie moved into 2^nd and Jeff / Brooks took 3^rd.  Full results can be found below.
