Glenn Ashby from Emirates Team New Zealand swapped San Francisco Bay for Ballyholme Bay this evening as part of the build up to the F18 World Championship next week. Borrowing Adrian Allen’s catamaran with Barry Swanston as crew, they streaked ahead of the two other BYC catamarans on show tonight leading by a leg after only 20 minutes.
It was a beautiful night more reminiscent of Glenn’s native Bendigo Bay in Australia. It was also his first sail in a double handed catamaran in several years having concentrated recently on the single handed A-Cat in which he won the European Championship last week and the AC72 of course.
We have yet to find out what new skills Barry has learnt this evening and whether he can transfer them to next week. We’ll find out soon.
